The first online edition of the Dutch Cycling Embassy’s event will be held in Tokyo, Japan on the 7th and the 8th of July, 2021. My family moved to the Netherlands in 2020 in search of a better alternative education for our three boys in this difficult time of the pandemic. It was surely not easy for all of us but we are sure now that it was the right choice. As I travel in this chaos back and forth between Japan and the Netherlands, I had the opportunity to meet quite a lot of Dutch change-makers being active in the designing of our future life-style. The biggest impact was living in this vast network of cycling infrastructure and how the cities were re-designing itself basing itself in prioritizing in a logical way the people living and working in a city.
With all the disastrous issues the world needs to solve, from global warming to social disparity, political chaos, conflicts, hatred and racism, etc, we received a huge wake-up call from this pandemic. It’s time we all think in a more humane manner. Simply because we have so much to achieve from this perspective. And I see that cycling holds the key to a prosperous future.
This online event will be the first official introduction of the Dutch cycling culture and together with expert panelists from both countries we will explore together how we can implement the concept also in Japan.
